Description
‘9 Elements – INTRO’
This work marks the beginning of a new cycle for me: Elements. I envisaged pieces built on the multiplication of elements created in one moment and within one creative energy, without pauses, without wiping the brushes or adding paint to the bucket. I felt that this approach would ultimately result in components that are spiritually fused with one another and, once assembled, form a unified whole. The experiment is complete.
I carried out several multi-day creative sessions, each producing nine elements. Each set of nine Elements is consistent with the others, yet no two sets are the same — and that is what defines their individuality. I gave them titles.
The next stage is to assemble and disassemble the elements. I divided the works into groups of six, two and one, so that I can create several different pieces from each session. These pieces differ in the number of elements and exist independently of the others. If a set of six Elements is sold, the original nine Elements will no longer exist. The same applies if a set of two Elements is purchased. Such is the game. It is a story about fragmentation and unification; about existing together or in isolation.
Each session, and indeed the entire experiment, brings together my two independent interests: architectural precision and organic depth. This creates a space that is both grounded and infinite. It is a visual meditation on stillness and the quiet strength of colour. Colour and structure are the central motifs of this cycle. My aspiration is minimalism — thus reduction, subtraction and synthesis — until only what is essential remains.
When I began the cycle, I had a sketch of the themes I wanted to explore. ‘INTRO’ is the first piece and serves as an outline of the whole, while the subsequent works are devoted to specific themes, such as places, structures and landscapes.
The work was exhibited in Amsterdam at the Pop-Up Gallery from October 2 to 7, 2025.
Painting surface. Acrylic resin on mdf (medium density fibreboard). The board is practically plastered with resin, which gives the painting surface a very interesting granular structure and also the impression of a wall. It is possible that it is a fresco.
Picture Frame. The work does not require a frame. Ready to hang. The work consists of 9 modules for easy disassembly for transport in the trunk of a standard car and then for easy assembly at the destination. Nine 80 x 80 cm panels assembled into a square measure 240 x 240 cm.
For transport the painting is packed in a wooden frame. Weight: 56 kg. With packaging: 75 kg. The gallery provides transport and installation within Poland.
The original is featured in the Artistic Loft Gallery in Hotel Galery69. I would like to invite you to this unusual gallery, which is functionally a hotel, and is intended as an exhibition of art and authorial design of the duo Manufaktura69, of which I am a „half”.
Signature. The work is signed by me on the reverse side of each element with my initials and: Meggy Bernhardt, title, format, and date. I am also enclosing a certificate.
