Art Beyond Mind:
On Perception and Creation

If we were to reject all the concepts and associations that have been learned and imprinted upon us, and remain with the perception of art outside the mind, we would thereby enter into the process of creation, which, at its most essential point, takes place beyond the mind. If we allow the viewer to move freely through the world of art without imposing filters of knowledge, history, and everything that has been done before, and leave them alone with the work, contemplation will naturally reach a stage of perception in which they become aligned with the creator of the work. When I contemplate a painting in a museum or gallery, after a while I enter the same state of meditation that I achieve when creating. I begin to observe the work from a personal perspective. And it stays with me. It becomes an inspiration. I create my work. Sharing what has been created is an invitation to find a part of yourself in this manifested image of shared energy and to make this experience a source of your own inspiration. And that’s how it loops.
